Director, Applied Statistics
The University of Utah, College of Nursing, a research intensive institution, is seeking a candidate with a PhD in biostatistics or related area for the Director, Applied Research position. This leadership position will provide statistical support to a team of PhD and Masters' prepared statisticians, and assist faculty in conceptualizing their research and choosing appropriate statistical analysis and design. The opportunity to conduct research in his/her own area of interest is available should the candidate so choose. The opportunity for teaching at the doctoral level is also available. This exciting position can be summarized by the phrases creative, collaborative, cutting-edge and conceptualization. The Director of Applied Statistics will be located alongside College of Nursing researchers and the research support team in the state-of-the-art Emma Eccles Jones Research Center within the College of Nursing. The University of Utah is an integral part of a dynamic Health Sciences Center and has received $322 Million for FY2007 Research. We have been successful in obtaining numerous grants from government agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, Department of Labor, Department of Health and Human Services, and leading foundations such as the American Cancer Society and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Moreover, the College of Nursing at the University of Utah is one of nine institutions receiving Hartford grants for Geriatric Centers in the US and one of the first VA Nursing Academies in the country. Here at the University of Utah, College of Nursing, our scientific research growth and maturation have been at the forefront of both national and professional trends. A donation of one million dollars from the Emma Eccles Jones Foundation provided support for a complete redesign of 5,900 net square feet of current space on the fifth floor of the College. This has helped us achieve our goal of increasing research support and funding, through enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration; a supportive sharing environment across research projects and programs; active participation of students in all aspects of the research process; and a facility that ensures confidentiality of all data collection activities and storage of research data; and a safe, ergonomically sound work environment that supports productive, creative and efficient work..
