As a PhD student, you will come to campus for orientation in your first year, then week-long intensives each subsequent year of coursework.

On-Campus Orientation

The PhD program is designed to foster strong relationships between students, advisors and faculty. This is accomplished in a variety of ways: from working with advisors and together on projects, to each year, PhD students and faculty meet at the Gerontological Society of America annual meeting. Other PhD students attend different conference as a cohort, depending on their research interests.

Cross Country Collaborations

You've listened to the students, and seen the set up of the "classroom." Teaching and learning takes place in a variety of ways. Lectures, discussions, and group work. You might be wondering, "What about statistics?" How is that taught?

Going to Conferences

Entering a PhD program is a big decision; it is an investment of your time, your energy, financially, intellecually and emotionally. Every student has their own story to tell.

Being Stretched in a PhD Program

The gerontology-focused PhD program is offered through the College of Nursing's highly acclaimed distant program format. This format allows students to "educate in place" while receiving a doctoral education that is designed for self-motivated, independent learners ready to engage in the intellectual rigors of an academic community.
