Associate Chief, Nursing Service (ACNS) for Research

The Salt Lake City George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System in conjunction with The University of Utah College of Nursing is seeking a candidate for the joint position of Associate Chief, Nursing Service (ACNS) for Research and Faculty at the College of Nursing.
Criteria for Position: RN licensure in the state of Utah. Doctorate in Nursing (or related field), Masters in nursing (or related field), BSN or Master's from an accredited program and several years of successful nursing practice. Competence in research design, methodology, and data analysis. Maintains standards necessary to have a faculty appointment in research track or tenure track at the University of Utah College of Nursing
Position Summary: Provides leadership for the nursing research program, facilitates and conducts research, and is involved in interdisciplinary medical center research activities. Serves as faculty in the College of Nursing; responsibilities are negotiable.
Located on a 70 - acre campus situated at the foot of the rugged Wasatch Mountains and overlooking the city below, the George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a 121 - bed tertiary care facility serving veterans residing within a 25,000 square mile primary service area within VISN 19. It is closely affiliated with the University of Utah, which is physically located adjacent to the Medical Center. Salt Lake City offers all of the traditional services plus specialty areas such as pathology, radiology, neurology, nuclear medicine, psychiatry, and open heart surgery, including cardiac transplantation.
Areas of Major Responsibility
Include, but are not limited to the following activities:
- Directs the Nursing Research Program
- Conducts merit-reviewed, approved research projects
- Serves as a contributing member of a research team
- Formulates research proposals
- Publishes in appropriate professional journals and speaks to peer groups
- Facilitates the conduct of research by nursing staff
- Assists staff and participates in the IRB process
- Facilitates evidence-based practice by nurses
- Participates in research program and policy development for the VA
- Maintains academic affiliation with the college of nursing.
Responsible To:
- The Associate Chief, Nursing Service (ACNS) for Research reports to the AD, Patient Services who is the rating official
- Dean of the College of Nursing, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Division Chair
