Clinical Faculty Position

The University of Utah College of Nursing is seeking applicants for full- and part-time clinical-track faculty positions.

Candidates must hold RN licensure in the state of Utah and a minimum of a master's degree in nursing.

While we welcome and encourage all qualified applicants, at this time we are particularly interested in applicants with experience in the areas of:

  • Medical Surgical Nursing
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner

This clinical-track faculty member may function in a part-time or full-time role. The individual will assume teaching responsibilities, clinical student supervision, student advisement, curriculum work, and other faculty expectations such as committee work, professional activities and service, as negotiated in the specific workload assignment.

Title:  Clinical Track Faculty Position

Criteria for Position:  Must hold RN licensure in the state of Utah and have a minimum of a master's degree in nursing. Experience with clinical learning, student supervision and teaching methods is desired. Documented academic preparation in curriculum and instruction or at least 3 years of experience teaching in an accredited nursing program. Relevant health care experience, evidence of an established area of clinical expertise, and strong organizational and communication skills are required.

Description:  This clinical-track faculty member may function in a part-time or full-time role. The individual will assume teaching responsibilities, clinical student supervision, student advisement, curriculum work, and other faculty expectations such as committee work, professional activities and service, as negotiated in the specific workload assignment.

Area of Major Clinical Focus:  

  • Maintains own license, immunizations, HIPAA, OSHA, CPR or other clinical facility requirements and provides evidence if asked. Provides a copy of current license to the College of Nursing.
  • Supervises student groups in clinical areas (maintains presence in the facility during entire student clinical time if not precepted). If students are precepted, meets with student and preceptor a minimum of twice during the semester. Is available during clinical time.
  • Responsible for producing and distributing course learning objectives and student schedules to the clinical facilities prior to student attendance at the facility.
  • Is responsible for clinical agency requirements of students (CLIA, computer training, identification, HIPAA, OSHA, student immunizations, CPR).
  • Evaluates and grades student performance. Meets with students at midterm for formal evaluation and again at the end of the course. Files final evaluation with Student Affairs Office.
  • Maintains faculty expectations as required by the College of Nursing.

Responsible To:  

  • Division Chair and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
  • Responds to advice and counsel of the Baccalaureate Program Director.
