Summer Scholarship Institute
The Summer Scholarship Institute is designed to advance the mission of research and scholarship within the College of Nursing through promotion of publication of research and scholarly work and development of programs of research that will become self-sufficient through external funding. The Summer Scholarship Institute is not meant to provide funds to pay for workload that is already supported by state or grant funding. Faculty may apply for one of two tracks: Publishing or Research Development. PARTICIPATION IS IN ADDITION TO YOUR TEACHING COMMITMENTS FOR THE SUMMER.
For Track 1-Publishing: Salaried faculty (tenure-track, clinical, research, and academic staff; full or part-time), may apply, with these exceptions:
- Faculty on 11-month or 12-month appointments
- Faculty with allocated workload for research or scholarship during the summer
Tenured faculty are encouraged to participate in the writing team in Track 1 applications, but generally are not eligible for SSI funds because publication is an expectation of tenure supported by research/scholarship workload allocation during the academic year. Exceptions to exclusion of tenured faculty from SSI funding can be made, but justification for extraordinary circumstances is required with application submission. Priority will be given to partnerships of two faculty, however individual faculty may apply if there is strong justification about why a partnership would not be appropriate. Once selected, faculty will need to attend a half-day orientation and mid-summer check-in. If you have participated before, you may only need to attend part of the orientation.
For Track 2- Research Development:
Salaried faculty may apply for research funding, with these exceptions:
- Faculty on 11 or 12-month appointments
- Faculty with allocated workload in summer assignment for research or scholarship
Priority will be given to (a) faculty not otherwise funded (grant funding or workload allocation) for research/scholarship any time during the year, and/or (b) faculty with a clear plan to submit a grant application for extramural funding during the upcoming summer or fall.
