College of Nursing

NEXus Distance Learning

Students enrolled in the University of Utah PhD program take all of the core courses required in the program utilizing the distance education technology. Students must also choose Area of Specialization (elective) courses to round out the program of study, which may be offered on-ground, via distance technology, or completely online, depending on the courses selected. In addition to being able to choose courses offered at the University of Utah to complete the Area of Specialization requirements, students may also select courses offered through the Nursing Education Exchange (NEXus) program.

NEXus is an inter-collegiate partnership which allows students enrolled at participating colleges and universities to take courses that may not be offered at his/her home institution for a common fee of $675/credit hour. Because the University of Utah participates in NEXus, the courses are available to College of Nursing PhD students. Our NEXus liaison, Shayla DeGooyer, facilitates the registration and transcription of these courses from partner institutions.
