Dean's Message: Welcoming the New Dean

Dean's Message: Welcoming the New Dean

Dean Maureen Keefe

Jul 1, 2013 3:00 PM

With this summer edition of excellence, I bid you a fond farewell and ask you to join me in extending a warm welcome to your new dean, Dr. Patricia Morton. While Dr. Morton officially begins in her new role August 1, she has spent the summer seamlessly integrating into the College of Nursing, community and into a strong leadership position as your dean.

Besides being a nationally renowned nursing leader and author with an impressive track record of success, Dr. Morton is a remarkable individual. Those of you who have already had the pleasure of interacting with her have likely experienced the incredible energy and enthusiasm she brings to discussions about the vital role of nursing and gerontology in this unparalleled time of change in the health care industry. She is excited to continue building on the strong tradition of excellence, innovation and integrity for which we are known. As an acute care nurse practitioner-board certified (ACNP-BC), she has been actively involved in advancing the recommendations of the IOM Report in the state of Maryland, and will be an asset to our local efforts here in Utah.

From her first visit to Utah, Dr. Morton was impressed by the collaborative spirit within the College of Nursing, where educators, researchers and clinicians join together to work on improving the overall health and quality of life in the state. As she builds a new vision for the college, one that leverages your expertise in the areas of research, education and practice, it will be for the overall enhancement of our health care delivery system.

I wish Dr. Morton, and you, all the best as together you write the next chapter for our top-notch College of Nursing!

Maureen
