Dr. Catherine Staes, Specialty Director of the Nursing Informatics track in the master’s program, has been selected for induction as a fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics and will be formally recognized at the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) conference in November. For those not familiar with AMIA, it is a professional scientific association formed in 1988 by the merger of three organizations: the American Association for Medical Systems and Informatics (AAMSI); the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI); and the Symposium on Computer Applications in Medical Care (SCAMC). AMIA's programs and services are centered around advancing the science of informatics, promoting the education of informatics, assuring health information technology is used most effectively to promote health and healthcare; and advancing the informatics profession.
Dr. Kristin Cloyes has been elected to serve as Chair-elect of NEXus, a national consortium of 17 doctoral nursing programs that allow students to take courses from other member institutions to further enrich their educational experiences and course availability (http://winnexus.org/institution-contacts/ ). This 2-year appointment will allow Dr. Cloyes the opportunity to influence how the consortium pursues emerging innovations and leverages extant networks and resources. This national service commitment also provides us with visibility in our peer institutions.
