Recognition of Clinical Work
On Pulse, Grace Jordan recognized Denise Reeves, writing, “Thanks for helping out with cares in the ICN while we figured out staffing. It made such a difference and we are lucky to have nurses like you on our team!” Dr. Lauri Linder echoed the recognition, writing, “Congratulations Denise on this nice recognition by our colleagues at University Hospital. Your efforts to support your clinical colleagues in the provision of safe patient care are greatly appreciated and do not go unnoticed.”
Committee Appointment
Dr. Kathy Sward has been appointed Vice Chair of the University of Utah Institutional Review Board (IRB). The IRB conducts ethics reviews for research that includes human participants, and strives to protect the rights and welfare of human research participants by ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and the University’s high ethical standards. Dr. Sward will serve a three-year term.
Presentations
The American Medical Informatics Association Annual Symposium was held on November 9-13 in San Francisco. The symposium theme was Informatics in the Age of Generative Artificial Intelligence. The College of Nursing sponsored the Nursing Informatics Working Group Business Meeting and Reception.
- Dr. Mollie Cummins, Ramkiran Gouripeddi, and Dr. Julio Facelli presented a half-day tutorial titled Informatics Methods for Exposure Health. Dr. Kathy Sward and Rachel Nelson were unable to attend but helped prepare tutorial materials.
- Dr. Mollie Cummins, Sukrut Shishupal, Dr. Bob Wong, Neng Wan, Jiuying Han, Jace Johnny, Amy Mhatre-Owens, Ramkiran Gouripeddi, Julia Ivanova, Triton Ong, Hiral Soni, Janelle Barrera, Hattie Wilczewski, Brian Welch, and Brian Bunnell delivered a podium presentation titled Observational Study of Travel Distance in US Telemedicine Sessions with Estimates of Emissions Savings.
The American Society of Criminology held its Annual Meeting on November 13-16 in San Francisco. The meeting theme was Criminological Research and Education Matters: People, Policy, and Practice in Tumultuous Times.
- Dr. Julie Valentine served as Chair/Discussant for two seminars: The Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examination Process and More Severe Violence in Sexual Assault.
- Drs. Julie Valentine, Leslie Miles, and Elizabeth Dowdell delivered a podium presentation titled Do Dating Apps Enable Sexual Predators? A Retrospective Evaluation.
- Dr. Julie Valentine delivered a podium presentation titled “It’s Not About the Kit” A Historical Perspective of Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examinations.
