Retirement Celebration
During a recent retirement celebration, the College of Nursing honored six faculty – Dr. Sue Chase-Cantarini, Dr. Jenneth Doria, Dr. Gwen Latendresse, Dr. Brenda Luther, Dr. John Nerges, and Dr. Rebecca Wilson – who will soon retire. We are deeply grateful for their many years of service to the University, the College, the community, and their students, and we wish them a fulfilling and rewarding retirement.
Community Events
Dr. Liz Greene and Psychiatric/Mental Health Doctor of Nursing Practice students Jessica Nield and Dani Young volunteered with the Behavioral Health Innovation and Dissemination Center (BHIDC) at the Junior League of Salt Lake City's Care Fair. They provided mental health screenings and helped connect underserved community members to behavioral health resources. Their efforts contributed to the distribution of 15 vouchers to be used at BHIDC for free therapy services.
Faculty and students contributed to the success of the 2026 Care Fair, an annual community event hosted by the Junior League of Salt Lake City at the Horizonte Instruction and Training Center. Led by the Physician Assistant Program, the Care Fair provides free medical and dental services to community members regardless of insurance status. Nursing faculty and students were instrumental in the event’s success by helping plan, recruiting volunteers, conducting community outreach, assessing patients and families, and providing vouchers for follow-on care. Their dedication, along with the efforts of many other volunteers and community partners, helped expand access to needed health services for individuals and families throughout the community.

Presentations
Dr. Jessica Ellis gave a poster presentation and co-facilitated a workshop at the 34th International Confederation of Midwives Triennial Congress in Lisbon. The Congress provided an opportunity to share educational initiatives, learn from colleagues across diverse healthcare settings, and engage in discussions about the future of midwifery practice and education.

- Transforming Maternity Care: Midwives as Leaders in Teaching and Innovating for Respectful Physiologic Birth. Dr. Jessica Ellis,Susanna Cohen, Ashile Hashimoto, Yumi Malik, Abby Rizk, Jocelyn Yale, and Claudia Gerard facilitated the workshop and three simulation learning experiences.
Faculty gave a presentation and hosted a seminar at the 2006 American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) National Conference in Las Vegas.
- Dr. Diane Chapman gave a presentation titled Trauma-Informed Primary Care: Beyond ACEs to Global Trauma.
- Dr. Amanda Al-Khudairi, Dr. Jennifer Hamilton, and Dr. Jessie Leavitt offered a 3-hour seminar titled Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health: Beyond Contraception.
Global Engagement
Drs. Jessica Ellis, Melissa Saftner, and colleagues participated in a guided tour of São João University Hospital Center, gaining insight into Portugal’s healthcare system and maternity care model through visits to the labor and delivery unit, prenatal clinics, and the adjoining children’s hospital. The visit supported comparison of maternal and pediatric care approaches and fostered discussions with Portuguese healthcare professionals on clinical practice, education, and healthcare delivery.
