The University of Utah Research Foundation Interdisciplinary Research Initiative awarded $48,346 to Cynthia Berg and Dr. Nancy Allen for their project titled Barriers and Facilitators to Sharing CGM Data for Type 1 Diabetes during Emerging Adulthood: Implications for Clinical Care.

Dr. Nancy Allen received the 2026 ADCES Research Award at ADCES26 – the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists conference in Columbus.
Professional Service
Peers elected Dr. Katarina Friberg-Felsted to serve as Vice Chair-Elect of the Gerontological Society of America's (GSA) Academy for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE), which is one of GSA’s six membership groups. After serving a one-year term as Vice Chair-Elect, Dr. Friberg-Felsted will serve successive one-year terms as Vice-Chair, Chair, and Past-Chair. Dedicated to advancing education, research, and public service in the field of aging and gerontology, AGHE develops curricular standards, defines educational competencies, publishes standards and guidelines for gerontology and geriatrics programs in higher education, and supports age-friendly university initiatives. AGHE also publishes the international journal Gerontology & Geriatrics Education. Election results were published in the August 2026 edition of Gerontology News.
Community Engagement
Dr. Jen Clifton, Aaron Enz, BS student Laura Andrew, and high school intern Elayna Hoglund participated in the 5th Annual Back to School Health Fair at Southeast Christian Church. Dr. Clifton, Laura, and Elayna took community members' blood pressures, educated community members about preventing high blood pressure, and generally educated visitors about healthy lifestyle habits.
