Neap

The College of Nursing offers an early assurance track for eligible high school seniors and college first-year students who have a maximum of 30 credit hours interested in earning a Bachelor Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN) at the University of Utah. The Nursing Early Assurance Program (NEAP) is a track in the Baccalaureate Nursing Program that offers direct entry for candidates that are planning on majoring in nursing at the University of Utah. Candidates applying to the University of Utah as a first-year in fall will begin the nursing program in approximately two years.

NEAP eliminates the uncertainty associated with undergoing a competitive application process to gain entry to the pre-licensure nursing program after completing two years of General Education and Prerequisite coursework. NEAP candidates are encouraged to participate in enrichment activities during their first and second years, such as community-engaged learning, undergraduate research, honors, working towards a minor, or study abroad--thus enriching their university experience.

Candidates for this program apply to the College of Nursing through a competitive application process. Benefits of NEAP:

  • Candidates would be given conditional acceptance to the BSN program while they complete their nursing prerequisite coursework and would begin the nursing curriculum after completing required coursework
  • Eliminate the uncertainty of having to apply to the pre-licensure nursing program after completing prerequisite courses
  • Enrichment and community-engaged learning activities during freshman and sophomore years
  • Access to College of Nursing advisors, faculty mentors, and nursing student peer advisors

"My mentality has always been—if something is broken, fix it; if something is about to be broken, change the process; if a solution doesn't work, explore other options. In high school, my mother suggested that I go into nursing. It made sense, and I remember thinking 'it can't be that easy to choose a career I want to stick with'. Now after graduating, I am fueled with excitement every single day at the prospect of practicing what I love for the rest of my life."

-Nene Maruta, NEAP Program Graduate & Registered Nurse
