KNACC: Knowledgeable Nursing Assistants as Creative Caregivers

About

We partnered with Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) to explore creative approaches to caregiving in long term care settings. Using a participatory approach, we adapted arts-based creative caregiving techniques and materials for CNA use and evaluated an implementation protocol for piloting these adapted techniques in long-term care settings. Outcome measures were also assessed to identify potential influence of on job satisfaction and empowerment. Materials were revised, based on this process, to develop the Knowledgeable Nursing Assistants as Creative Caregivers (KNACC) intervention. Next steps include further testing with CNAs and assessment on resident outcomes in long term services and supports settings.
