Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 Cohort Application Information
Fall 2027 and Spring 2028: Four-Semester Program of Study
Students applying to the existing four-semester Prelicensure Program of Study must meet the minimum requirements below. Meeting the minimum requirements makes you eligible to apply, though it does not guarantee admission. Admission is competitive, and applicants who exceed the minimum requirements may be more competitive. Students admitted to the U-EXCEL/NEAP program do not need to apply again since they are already admitted and have their respective start date.
Minimum Requirements
- Prerequisites: Completed five of the nine required prerequisite courses (Biology, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Chemistry, and Statistics). The remaining four prerequisite courses (Nutrition Intervention, Human Growth and Development: Lifespan, Medical Microbiology, and Pathophysiology) must be in progress or completed
- Academic Performance: Minimum 3.0 mandatory prerequisite cumulative GPA (Biology, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Chemistry and Statistics) and a minimum 3.0 prerequisite cumulative GPA (All prerequisite courses) and a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA for all courses completed at all colleges and universities
- Course Retakes: No more than two prerequisite course retakes
- U of U Credits: Not applicable—not a minimum requirement
- Utah Residency: Not applicable—not a minimum requirement
Competitive Factors
- Prerequisites: Successful completion of all nine required prerequisite courses (Biology, Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Chemistry, and Statistics. Nutrition Intervention, Human Growth and Development: Lifespan, Medical Microbiology, and Pathophysiology)
- Academic Performance: Students with GPAs higher than the minimum requirements are prioritized
- Course Retakes: No repeated prerequisite courses
- U of U Credits: Students with completed credits as a University of Utah student are prioritized
- Utah Residency: Students who meet Utah residency requirements with the University of Utah Admissions office are prioritized
Fall 2027 and Spring 2028: Six-Semester Program of Study
Beginning in Fall 2027, the College of Nursing will offer a six-semester Prelicensure Program of Study. Students applying to this program must meet the minimum requirements below. Meeting the minimum requirements makes you eligible to apply, though it does not guarantee admission. Admission is competitive, and applicants who exceed the minimum requirements may be more competitive. Students admitted to the U-EXCEL/NEAP program do not need to apply again since they are already admitted and have their respective start date.
Minimum Requirements
- Prerequisites: Required prerequisite courses (Biology, Chemistry, and Statistics) must be in progress or completed
- Academic Performance: An overall cumulative GPA of 3.7 and prerequisite GPA 3.5
- Course Retakes: No more than one repeated prerequisite course
- U of U Credits: Not applicable—not a minimum requirement
- Utah Residency: Not applicable—not a minimum requirement

Which Program Will I Apply For?

Course Equivalencies
All courses offered at in-state colleges and universities that have been approved are included in the course equivalency chart. If a class you have taken is not on this list or from an out of state institution, you may request a course or transcript evaluation. Course or transcript evaluations are not available 30 days before an application deadline; please plan accordingly. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all prerequisites fulfill course requirements.

Items you will need to include when submitting your request for transcript review:
- An unofficial transcript any school where you took courses that you want to be evaluated
- Syllabus for each course from when you took the class
- Link to the course description of the classes you are having reviewed
- List of courses you want to have considered
Admission Deadlines
Fall 2027 Semester:
Opens: January 1, 2027
Closes: January 31, 2027 at 5:00 PM MT
Spring 2028 Semester:
Opens: August 1, 2027
Closes: September 1, 2027 at 5:00 PM MT
Summer Semester:
We will no longer be enrolling a summer cohort.
