Provide primary care to individuals and families throughout their lifespans.
Overview
Family nurse practitioners provide primary care to patients of all ages throughout the lifespan. This specialty track is completed in three years, including two summer semesters.
As a doctoral student in the Family Primary Care track, you will:
- Develop skills to influence public policy through participation in professional organizations and health policy activities at the local, national, and global level.
- Take courses in evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and systems leadership.
- Learn through in-depth coursework in pathophysiology, acute care, critical care, pharmacology, diagnostic reasoning, and physical examinations.
- Participate in a variety of clinical experiences in a variety of outpatient settings.
Certification Eligibility
Graduates are prepared to sit for national certification from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program (AANPCP) and the American Nurses' Credentialing Center (ANCC). Upon successful completion of the exam, candidates are eligible to become certified or licensed to practice.
