Global Learning Projects

Global Learning Program

The College of Nursing values student participation in global activities in all programs of study. Graduate students with a strong interest in global health are encouraged to explore the Global Learning Program. Opportunities for global engagement through the College of Nursing vary and students are encouraged to search the website to find faculty and resources to meet their needs and interests. Faculty are available to mentor students in pursuing global health projects within their program of study and are committed to guiding students to effective, safe and successful outcomes. Both local and global learning experiences are often interdisciplinary and enriched by collaborations within the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine, Public Health, and Learning Abroad.

Rwanda Trip 2024

Visiting the Kigali Genocide Museum had an enormous impact on me. I learned a lot of lessons during our visit there. A big lesson I learned was that the genocide was systemically planned and carried out. As a 90's kid, my understanding of that event was very skewed - in true transparency, I thought it was just violence that broke out - that was the narrative I saw and didn't question it. What I learned at the museum was very much the opposite. It was a campaign that was based on hate, stereotypes, misinformation, and had a complicated history intertwined with colonialism. It made me realize how none of us are that far removed from genocide. Genocide comes when we stop listening to each other, when we stop connecting with one another. That was probably my biggest take away from this trip - we are all capable of such good and such bad - we have to have an awareness of knowing the duality of what we as humans are capable of. Visiting the Kigali Genocide Museum really highlighted why we went on this trip, global learning is so much more than visiting other countries, it's about forming relationships, it's about taking the time to choose connection with each other. We have so much more in common with one another than we realize.
