Information Session Regarding Prelicensure Program Updates
The University of Utah College of Nursing held an Information Session on July 17, 2026, to update current students on changes to its prelicensure curriculum and application and admission process. A recording of the session is available below. The session covers why the changes are happening, how the curriculum is restructuring, and what the new admissions timeline looks like over the next several application cycles.
Invitation-Only Eligibility Definition
Eligibility to apply for the Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 terms will be determined through a competitive ranking process. To qualify for the opportunity to apply, under the current program of study, applicants will be evaluated by the College of Nursing Admissions Office based on the following criteria:
- Prerequisites: Successful completion of all nine (9) required prerequisite courses.
- Course Retakes: No repeated prerequisite courses.
- Academic Performance: 3.0 cumulative GPA; hard science GPA (5 pre-req courses: Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy, Physiology, Statistics); all pre-req courses
- University of Utah Credits: Number of credits completed as a University of Utah student.
Top-ranked students will be invited via email from the College of Nursing admissions office to submit an application. More information to come once grades are posted.
This is applicable to Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 terms.
This is not applicable to U-EXCEL/NEAP Students. Those students are already admitted to this program.
Baccalaureate Program Outcomes
The baccalaureate program at the University of Utah is designed to reflect the mission and philosophy of the University and the vision, mission, goals and expected outcomes of the College of Nursing. Graduates of the baccalaureate program will achieve the following:

- Collaborate and communicate effectively to improve patient outcomes.

- Integrate theory and research into evidence-based practice.
- Recognize that health care delivery and professional nursing practice occur within contexts of social,
- economic, and political environments.
- Promote health and healthy behaviors through collaborative population-focused interventions.
