SLCC Express Pathway

The Express Pathway is a bridge program allowing students enrolled in Salt Lake Community College’s (SLCC) associate degree nursing program to seamlessly enter the University of Utah College of Nursing Online RN to BS emphasis. Students must be in their 2nd or 3rd semester to apply.

Dual Enrollment Option

  • Exclusive to Express Pathway students.
  • Individual program plans created with RN-BS advisor.
  • Add 1-2 online bachelor’s degree classes to your 3rd and 4th semesters at SLCC.
  • Get a head start while still at SLCC, then finish in a few as 2 semesters.

One application will count for both the College of Nursing and University of Utah.

Post-Graduation Option

  • Those who choose not to take the dual enrollment option will still enjoy timely completion of their BSN.
  • Students have up to 3 semesters to start the RN-BS program after graduating from SLCC.
  • Complete the program in 2, 3 or 4 semesters.
  • Students must pass the NCLEX prior to the start of their 1st semester to qualify for the 2-semester track.

Program Qualifications & Applications

    • Enrolled in Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Nursing at SLCC
      • 3.0 Prerequisite GPA
      • 3.3 nursing program GPA
      • General education
        • GE does not need to be compete during application and may be embedded in your individual program of study
      • Prerequisites:
        • Human Anatomy
        • Human Physiology
        • Elementary Chemistry
        • Statistics
        • Human Growth and Development
        • Microbiology
        • Pathophysiology
        • Nutrition Intervention (embedded in SLCC nursing program)
          • Prerequisites do not need to be complete during application, only before starting core RN-BS classes
          • Prerequisites do not expire

    Express Pathway Application

    This application will be embedded within the main campus application. You will need to submit official transcripts from all colleges attended, including your current SLCC transcript showing that you are currently in your 2nd or 3rd nursing semester.

    These transcripts will be used to verify your coursework, enrollment status, and eligibility for the Express Pathway program.

    U of U application

    • Apply only when you know which semester you wish to start (applications are only good for one semester at a time)  
    • Application type
      • Transfer
      • 2nd bachelors (if you have a previous degree)
      • Returning (if you have taken U of U courses prior)
    • Official transcripts from all colleges and/or universities
    • Choose “Uonline” from campus drop-down menu
    • Choose the semester you plan to start courses at the University of Utah.
      • If you plan to dual enroll, please choose the semester you plan to add those classes to your current SLCC schedule.
      • If you plan to wait to start until after graduation from SLCC, please choose the semester after you graduate.
    • Choose “pre-nursing” as area of focus (full major status in nursing will be declared as part of onboarding process)
    • U of U application deadlines:
      • Fall: April 1
      • Spring: November 1
      • Summer: March 1

    Application Deadlines

    Applications to the Express Pathway are open for 1 month each semester. Interested students should apply in their 2nd or 3rd semester during the corresponding application window.

    March 1 – 31
    June 1 – 30
    October 1-31

    *for example, if spring semester is the 2nd semester in a student’s SLCC nursing program, they should plan to apply during the March application window.
