Pathways in Nursing: The Prelicensure Track

Thinking about a future in nursing? At the University of Utah College of Nursing, the Prelicensure Track is designed for students who are ready to dive into the heart of health care. With a blend of classroom learning, hands-on clinical experience, and interprofessional training, this program prepares future nurses to lead with confidence.

What to Expect in the Prelicensure Track

The Prelicensure Track leads to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and provides students with the tools they need to make an immediate impact in patient care.

From day one, students are immersed in the values of person-centered care and interprofessional collaboration. With a curriculum grounded in liberal arts, sciences, and the latest nursing research, the program sets the stage for both clinical excellence and lifelong learning.

One of the program’s strengths is its adaptability. With multiple semester plan options and hybrid course offerings, students can choose a path that fits their needs and goals without compromising quality. Whether you’re completing your degree in four, five, or six semesters, you’ll be supported every step of the way.

Program Highlights:

  • Multiple program lengths: finish in 4, 5, or 6 semesters
  • Clinical placements in hospital population health settings
  • Interprofessional training with students in medicine, pharmacy, and other fields
  • In-person instruction with select hybrid and online options
  • A focus on advocacy and leadership in nursing practice

Graduates of the Prelicensure Track don’t just earn a degree, they step into the nursing profession ready to lead, innovate, and provide evidence-based care.

Nursing with Impact

Students in the Prelicensure Track learn to see the full picture of patient care. Courses and clinicals emphasize the importance of communication, ethics, and collaboration, skills that are critical to real-world nursing. You’ll be equipped not only to provide excellent care, but also to advocate for patients and lead in today’s evolving health care environment.

With access to the University of Utah’s world-class health system and faculty, you’ll train in an environment that’s as challenging as it is supportive. Since nursing is more than clinical knowledge, the program emphasizes personal and professional development every step of the way.
