U-EXCEL: Excellence in Nursing for High School Seniors

The U-EXCEL: Excellence in Nursing program is a direct entry pathway for high school seniors with a GPA of 3.5+ who are ready to jump-start their nursing career. This structured, supportive program guarantees a spot in the BSN program, removing the stress of competitive admissions and offering students the flexibility to explore other academic interests along the way.

What to Expect in U-EXCEL:

  • Guaranteed placement in the BSN program within two years
  • 5-semester timeline to complete nursing prerequisites
  • Hybrid, asynchronous, and synchronous course formats
  • Personalized advising with Early Admission Advisors
  • Access to research, honors, service learning, and global opportunities
  • Enrichment through the NURS 2400: Explore Nursing course

Prelicensure Track: Traditional Entry to the BSN

Want to become a nurse but don’t have a nursing degree or direct admission? The Prelicensure Track is designed just for you. Whether you’re starting college or exploring a new path, this flexible yet academically rigorous program provides a strong foundation for entering the nursing profession. Through a combination of classroom learning and hands-on clinical experiences, students are prepared to deliver safe, effective, and person-centered care in today’s complex healthcare environment.

What to Expect in the Prelicensure Track:

  • Complete the program in 4, 5, or 6 semesters based on your academic needs and goals
  • In-person learning enhanced by select online and hybrid course options.
  • Clinical Rotations and simulation experiences across a variety of specialties and healthcare settings
  • Interprofessional training with students from medicine, pharmacy, social work, and other disciplines to foster team-based care
  • A comprehensive curriculum focused on health equity, leadership development, clinical management, advocacy, and evidence-based practice.

This track offers more than a pathway to licensure. It helps students build a professional identity rooted in ethical practice, leadership, and a lifelong commitment to advancing the health of individuals and communities.

RN to BS: Online Pathway for Working RNs

Already an RN with an associate degree? The Online RN to BS pathway is designed just for you. This fully online, asynchronous program helps licensed RNs advance their careers and gain new leadership, research, and clinical skills while maintaining a work-life balance.

What to Expect in the RN to BS Pathway:

  • Complete your BSN in 2, 3, or 4 semesters
  • $12,000 flat tuition
  • 100% asynchronous format designed with working nurses in mind
  • Curriculum focused on leadership, communication, evidence-based practice, and patient advocacy

SLCC Express Pathway: A Bridge to the U

The SLCC Express Pathway offers a seamless bridge from Salt Lake Community College’s associate degree nursing program to the University of Utah’s Online RN to BS program. This unique partnership gives SLCC students a head start on their BSN while still completing their associate degree.

What to Expect in the SLCC Express Pathway:

  • Dual enrollment option allows you to take 1–2 online BSN courses during your 3rd and 4th semesters at SLCC
  • Complete your BSN in as few as 2 semesters after SLCC graduation
  • Custom program planning with RN-BS advisors
  • Post-graduation track available for students who prefer to wait

This fast-track option is ideal for motivated SLCC students who want to maximize their time and earning potential with an efficient, affordable BSN completion plan.
