College Kudos: Professional Certification, Community Events, and Presentations

Professional Certification

Mike Brammer, Human Resources and Employment Manager, met criteria for and earned SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification. Offered by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), SHRM-SCP is a senior-level certification that validates expertise in leading strategic human resources (HR) functions, including developing policies and procedures, executing integrated HR operations, and aligning strategies with organization goals. The certification requires at least three years of strategic level HR experience and passing a 134-question competency-based exam. Mike also serves on the Board of Directors for the Salt Lake Chapter of SHRM.

Community Events

The College of Nursing helped sponsor the Kaleidoscope: Aging with the Creative Spirit – Utah’s first Creative Aging festival that showcased the creativity, connection, and vitality of older adults through free performances, classes, diverse exhibits, and community events. Kickoff events for the 2-week festival took place at the Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center in Taylorsville, while additional activities took place statewide. Dr. Jacqueline Eaton served on the planning committee and evaluated the festival as part of an intramurally funded project for which she is Principal Investigator.

Meaghan Kennedy, Laura Linton, and Ivy Zawalski – Doctor of Nursing Practice students specializing in Psychiatric-Mental Health – joined Dr. Liz Greene and alumnae Dr. Shauna Cheshire and Dr. Danielle Gremlich as volunteers on the Compassion Committee for the Salt Lake City Out of the Darkness Community Walk in West Jordan. The team provided emotional support to participants throughout the day. Sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the annual walk raises awareness about suicide, honors and remembers loved ones, offers emotional support to participants, and raises funds for suicide prevention education programs, group facilitator training and support initiatives, efforts that protect mental health, research about preventing suicide, and advocacy for federal and state legislation. This year’s Salt Lake City Walk raised more than $227,650.
