Van Gip-Duran, RN
Family Nurse Practitioner Student, Fall 2017 Cohort
My parents and I immigrated to America from Vietnam when I was 10-years-old. Since they did not speak English, and I learned very quickly, I often had the privilege of interpreting for them when they went to doctor appointments. I realized that I wanted to become a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner so I could advocate for, and improve the quality of healthcare for my parents and similarly underserved population. My interest in becoming a primary care nurse practitioner was strongly confirmed during my undergraduate nursing training in the operating room (OR) at Ogden Regional Medical Center (ORMC) as well as, my humanitarian experience as a registered nurse in Haiti in October 2016. As a future nurse practitioner, I plan to work in a family practice clinic where I can focus on factors that prevent and manage chronic diseases while reducing healthcare costs.
