Welcome to the College of Nursing graduate school!
Whether you are considering applying to the College of Nursing, in the process of applying or are a current student, graduate school is an exciting time. It is a time to stretch and grow, building on your previous nursing education, experience and skills. You bring with you a wealth of knowledge and understanding of healthcare to the Doctor of Nursing Practice, the DNP, program.
Obtaining the DNP degree in nursing will unlock doors and prepare you for a variety of roles. It may be as an advanced practice registered nurse, such as a nurse practitioner in the areas of neonatal, primary care, acute care, psych/mental, and women’s health or as a midwife. Or it could be as an administrator or as an educator. A graduate degree in nursing also provides a sense of accomplishment and personal satisfaction through developing new skills and expanding responsibilities. During your time at the College of Nursing, you will begin to think about yourself differently. Colleagues will begin to think about you differently as you will bring forth and use your new knowledge.
I look forward to working with you on your journey to becoming a DNP prepared nurse.
Thank you,
Gillian Tufts, DNP, FNP
Assistant Dean, MSN and DNP Programs
