Natalie Allen has been appointed as Specialty Track Director for the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Utah College of Nursing — effective July 1, 2024. Allen’s professional background, including 35 years of nursing experience and expertise in the care of children with special health care needs, will further advance the college’s success and impact in the field of pediatric primary care.
“As the only pediatric nurse practitioner program in the state of Utah, our graduates are well-qualified and capable providers that have great impact in the communities in which they serve,” said Allen. “I look forward to the opportunities to continually enhance and develop our program, which in turn, will improve and elevate the quality of care of pediatric patients across the state and beyond.”
Allen’s leadership will be essential as the college continues to align curriculum with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education. “Dr. Allen’s experience and insights regarding pediatric care and pediatric nurse practitioner education will be crucial in this leadership position,” said Dr. Gwen Latendresse, PhD, CNM, FACNM, FAAN, Associate Dean of Academic Programs for the College of Nursing. “We are committed to preparing the next generation of advance-practice nurses to succeed in an ever-changing healthcare landscape and we look forward to having Dr. Allen in this role.”
Currently, Allen is an assistant clinical professor in the Division of Health Systems and Community Based Care at the University of Utah College of Nursing. She completed her BSN at Weber State University and earned her DNP from the University of Utah. She holds two American Nurses Credentialing Center board certifications: Family Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner.
