On Monday, July 29, 75 graduates from the College of Nursing were celebrated by family, friends, faculty, and staff at the college’s summer graduation ceremony. The cohort, honored in the Student Union Ballroom on campus, was recognized for their excellence, dedication, and accomplishments. Of the 75 graduates, 55 completed the pre-licensure program and 20 completed the RN-BS program.
"Graduates, I commend you for choosing to earn your degree at the University of Utah College of Nursing! You learned a tremendous amount of new knowledge, applied that knowledge in new ways, developed new competencies and skills, and conducted scholarly projects. Your dedication to volunteerism, community care, and public health embodies professional nursing, and you are entering the field of health care as leaders and advocates. I love a sentence from the Future of Nursing 2020-2030 report: A nation cannot fully thrive until everyone—no matter who they are, where they live, or how much money they make—can live the healthiest possible life, and helping people live their healthiest life is and has always been the essential role of nurses!"
"Nursing has shown me the essence of what it means to care for others. It’s not about the glamour or the money; it’s about making a difference in people’s lives and advocating for those who rely on us. The realization that we can be a source of comfort and healing to someone in the most vulnerable moments of their life has given me a profound sense of purpose. As we move forward, I encourage you to maintain your curiosity, your hunger to learn, and your ability to find humor in even the most challenging situations. Be confident, be curious, be brave."
"In the world of nursing, education is more than milestones; it demonstrates an ongoing adventure of growth. You might think you are done- just like I did. “I’ve made it!” you might say to yourself right now as you sit in these chairs during this ceremony. However- remember that this is just the start of your adventure. Be open to learning. Be open to growing."
As the summer sun casts its warm glow over campus, our nursing graduates step into a future brimming with promise and potential. This unique cohort has demonstrated resilience, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the art and science of nursing, even amidst the sweltering heat and summer challenges. As they don their caps and gowns, we celebrate not only their academic achievements but also their readiness to embark on a journey dedicated to caring for others. The entire College of Nursing community stands proudly behind these new graduates, confident that their skills and dedication will make a profound impact in the healthcare field. Congratulations to our summer graduates—may your future be as bright and promising as the summer day that marks the beginning of your next chapter.
