The National Cancer Institute awarded a $30,800 Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS) Junior Faculty Career Development Award to Dr. Echo Warner and Dr. Anne Kirchhoff for their project titled Evaluating the Need for Dyadic Intervention Adaptation in the Health Insurance Navigation Tools (HINT) Intervention. Funding for the award is provided through the CCSS grant from the National Cancer Institute. Based at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, the CCSS is a competitive, internationally reviewed grant competition, with only one application selected annually. 

Presentations

Dr. Paul Estabrooks and Dr. Elizabeth Sloss will present Theories, Models, & Frameworks in Dissemination & Implementation Science on January 24, 2025. Sponsored by the Utah Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), the session will be held from 9 am – 12 pm in the Williams Building, Room 238A, and also will be streamed through Zoom. 

Professional Achievement

Dr. Emily Winn earned the Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) credential, which the National League for Nursing’s (NLN) Academic Nurse Educator Certification Program administers. This certification underscores Dr. Winn's knowledge and expertise in facilitating learning, facilitating learner development and socialization, using assessment and evaluation strategies, designing curriculum and evaluating program outcomes, functioning as a change agent and leader, engaging in scholarship, pursuing continuous quality Improvement in the academic nurse educator role, and functioning within the organizational environment and the academic community. NLN created this academic nurse educator certification to establish nursing education as a specialty area of practice and create a means for faculty to demonstrate their expertise in this role. Dr. Winn met eligibility criteria for certification and passed a 130-question examination.

Recognition of Clinical Work

On Pulse, Elizabeth Dabb recognized Dr. Josh Twitchell, writing, “Thank you for going above and beyond to provide excellent patient care. Your wisdom, kindness and compassion made your patient feel better.” Dr. Lauri Linder echoed the recognition, writing, “Congratulations on this nice recognition of your efforts in providing compassionate patient care. Thank you for your commitment to excellence in supporting your patients and your clinical colleagues. We are glad to have you here at the College of Nursing.”

Professional Service

Dr. Linda Edelman has been selected to serve as a member of the Advisory Committee on Interdisciplinary, Community-Based Linkages (ACICBL), of the Health Resources and Services Administration, for a term of 3 years. The ACICBL provides advice and recommendations on policy and program development to the Secretary of Health and Human Services concerning the activities authorized under Part D of Title VII of the PHS Act, which include Area Health Education Centers, geriatrics, rural health, allied health, podiatry, chiropractic medicine, mental and behavioral health, pain care, and quality improvement and patient safety. Committee members also develop and publish performance measures and guidelines, and recommend appropriations for the above-mentioned programs.
