
This week, Dr. Valerie Flattes was honored with a national award from the AANP, Dr. Pamela Hardin was appointed Associate Professor (Clinical) Emeritus, and faculty presented at conferences in Denver, Halifax, and Chicago.

Professional Award
Dr. Valerie Flattes received the AANP State Award for Outstanding Contributions for the state of Utah at the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) National Conference in San Diego. This is an annual award given to one deserving individual per state who demonstrates excellence in alignment with AANP’s mission in the areas of practice, education, advocacy, research, or leadership (PEARL). This recognition honors individuals who have advanced the image, profile, and visibility of nurse practitioners at the state level through their exceptional contributions to the profession and healthcare delivery. Dr. Diane Chapman had the honor of presenting the award to Dr. Flattes.
Academic Designation
The University of Utah Board of Trustees designated Dr. Pamela Hardin as Associate Professor (Clinical) Emeritus effective July 1, 2025.
Professional Development
Dr. Sara Bybee was accepted as a Scholar in the Center for Aging and Serious Illness’Dementia Palliative Care Clinical Trials Training Program. Addressing national priorities for dementia research and grounded on the NIH Stage Model, this 10-month-long training program prepares early or mid-career interdisciplinary scientists and health professionals to plan, design, and conduct randomized clinical trials in persons with Alzheimer’s Disease or Related Dementias (ADRD). During the training program, Dr. Bybee will write a grant application addressing ADRD.
Presentations
Kristy Gauthier, Annie Harris, and Dr. Ann Butt attended the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning conference in Denver. Kristy and Dr. Butt delivered a presentation titled Multi-Patient Adventure Simulation for Interprofessional Competencies in BSN and DNP Students.
Faculty presented at the International Refugee and Migration Health Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
- Dr. Diane Chapman, Dr. Van Gip-Duran, and Dr. Gwen Latendresse presented a poster titled A Student-led Women’s Health Clinic for Refugee Populations: Leveraging Multi-sector Partnerships to Bridge Care Gaps.
- Dr. Diane Chapman, Georgia Reis, Sarah Kuech, Lori Kennedy, Blain Mamo, and Megan Barry presented a workshop titled The Centers of Excellence: 10 Years of Adapting to the Dynamic Landscape of Newcomer Health.
Faculty, post-doctoral fellows, students, and staff presented at the American Diabetes Association’s 85th Scientific Sessions in Chicago.
